Review by Nick May
Open from 8:30 'til very late, "Reggae Uprising" is that rarity in Fukuoka, an authentic reggae soul bar. Run by Hector Omani, a dreadlocked Ghanaian, it has been open for a little over a year. On a tiny side street off Oyafuko-dori, it's not something you would stumble over, but is definitely worth the effort and is an increasingly popular destination for the late night reveller. Expect a good atmosphere, intimate tables and decent reggae music in a dark but colourful bar with a friendly and knowledgable barman. English and Japanese spoken.
Beers are from 500yen and there is no charge. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.
They do sometimes have events, check out their webpage (see sidebar) for more details.

Walk down Oyafuko-dori from the Tenjin end. Turn left just after MosBurger and walk about 100 metres (parallel to Showa dori) up the little side street. "Uprising" is on the right on the second floor.
11 min from Tenjin st'n on foot.
