What happens when...

July 1st: The static kazariyama floats are unveiled at a dozen sites across the city.

July 2nd - July 9th: team meetings, training, etc. The portable kakiyama shrines are completed and blessed.


July 9th: Oshioitori: Every participant runs, with their team, to Hakozaki beach to purify themselves. Sand is brought to Kushida shrine and the Gods are prayed to.

July 10th: Nagaregaki (from 4pm to 6pm). First practice carrying the floats. This is done within the area of each team.

July 11th: Asayama (5:00am - 6:00am) as above, but early morning practice.

July 12th: Oiyamanarashi Early morning rehearsal race from Kushida shrine.

July 13th: Shudanyamamise: Afternoon trip across the river, leaving the Hakata area and into the area of the old town of Fukuoka, to City Hall and various dignitaries.

July 14th: Nagaregaki Dusk warmup for the Oiyama race.

July 15th: Oiyama the race itself - leaves at 4:59am from Kushida shrine. As soon as the last float has left, Noh Theatre is performed on the shrine Noh stage to provide a calming atmosphere.
