Fukuoka District Court is one of 50 in Japan. Its area of legal jurisdiction is Fukuoka Prefecture. District Courts are general purpose courts that also have an appellate role over civil judgements rendered in Summary Courts.
Most cases in District Courts are handled by a single judge, although in certain situations a panel of three judges may sit.(These are usually for more serious crimes, particularly those punishable by long prison terms or death, or appellate cases)
Appeals go to the Fukuoka High Court.
