Fukuoka High Court
Type: Courts

Highest court in the local Kyushu/Okinawa region

Fukuoka High Court viewed across the remains of the castle moat.

Information by Staff

One of only 8 High Courts, Fukuoka High court serves the Kyushu/Okinawa regions. (There is a branch of the court in Miyazaki). Under the Japanese judicial system it is superior to the Summary, District and Family Courts.

High Courts in Japan have jurisdiction over appeals filed against civil judgments filed in District or Family courts. However, criminal cases heard in Summary Courts (subsidiary to District courts) may be appealed directly to the High Court.

The Presidents of High Courts are appointed by the Japanese Cabinet and require Imperial Assent.

Cases are usually heard before a three judge court.

For more detailed information about High Courts and the Japanese judicial system in general, follow the link in the sidebar.

At Akasaka subway station, walk west along Meiji Dori along the castle moat. The Court complex is about 500 metres away, on the left, behind the moat.
