Bayside Place area
This area is an extensive redevelopment of the old Hakata Wharf docklands area. It contains "Bayside Place" itself (see the "Places to go" pulldown), a conference and exhibition area centred on Marine Messe, the Kokutai Centre and Sun Palace and local and international ferry terminals. There are excellent views of the area from the top of the (free) Hakata Port Tower.
Bayside Place
Bayside place itself is a modern multi-purpose ferry terminal and leisure development. It is the terminus/departure point for local ferries to Iki, Tsushima and Shikanoshima. It is a pleasant place to wander around with a range of shops and restaurants set around a wooden quay. Towering over bayside place is Hakata Port Tower with views over the east of the city and along the docks west to Aratsu bridge, The Dome and Momochi. Conference Zone.
Fukuoka can offer excellent conference facilities with Marine Messe, Sun Palace and the Kokutai Centre within a short walk of one another.
International Ferry Terminal
There is an international ferry terminal next to Marine Messe for the hydrofoil (The Beetle) and ferry to Pusan Korea and cruise ships .See the "Getting around" pulldown for more details.
