Kyushu University Area
Hakozaki is an older area in the east of the city that has escaped serious recent redevelopment. It is home to Kyushu University main campus (Hakozaki campus) and Hakozaki-Gu, a large, nationally known shrine.
With a high concentration of students, rents are low and there are numerous small eating places for those in the know. It is mainly residential, although along the docks there is still some heavy industry.
Hakozaki Miyamae and Hakozaki-Kyudai-mae subway stations on the Kaizuka line.
