Imaizumi houses a few rather elderly and expensive love hotels clinging on through the increasing gentrification of the area. There is a lot of development going on here as the new subway station at Yakuin will provide a small alternate transport hub for access to the south side of Fukuoka.
The Watanabe area (essentially the area on the right side of kokutai dori when heading down towards Nakasu) is something else entirely, having escaped redevelopment of any kind it is a maze of small shops, streets and some excellent little eating places if you know where to look and have rudimentary Japanese language skills. However, it is not a place for the casual visitor.
