Shima Machi (Qjmp: 19035)
Shima Machi is in Itoshima-gun, about 1 hours drive out of Fukuoka to the West.
The shima-machi area is to the west of Fukuoka-city. It is a very photogenic area of mainly countryside, small villages and beaches with a number of interesting places to go, and things to do and see. Although poorly served by public transport, it is easly accessible by car and now has bilingual (English Japanese) signposts directing one to all the most interesting places. It is very much being promoted as a tourist area and the phone number we have printed is for the local tourist office.
Of particular interest in the area are Nigi-no-hama, Futamigaura beaches, Sakurai shrine, the Keya area and the "Sunset Road" drive.
