Animals in cages
The surrounding area is nice though, as this is basically Minami Koen. Walk further up the hill and turn right for a viewing platform with good views of the city, or left for the Shokubutsukan (Botanical Gardens).
Note: May's Fukuoka City Guide Staff have not yet visited this location.
Bus is the best way as it is a longish walk (30 minutes or so) from the nearest station (Yakuin Nishitetsu). By car, turn left off Jonan-sen near the Nishi Nihon bank the zoo is about 2km up, on your left - just below the top of the hill.
