Long long ago the many little rivers that flow into the bay were pleasant havens for wildlife. As the city spread the water courses were gradually given steep concrete banks and became little more than storm drains.
That trend is now being slowly reversed, with the wider rivers landscaped and returned to a more natural, pleasant and bird friendly condition. The Muromi riverside park is one such attempt, introducing an area of natural green into the south west of the city.
