Traditional Japanese Garden

• Water garden and middle islands.

On the edge of Ohori Park, this traditional style Japanese garden contains a "Sukiya style" tea house and "Karesansui dry landscape" (Zen style gravel garden).

What it feels like
It is a pleasant and attractive place to spend half an hour and is very photogenic. There are small sitting areas in the trees in which one can spend time in

quiet contemplation or reading.

Pick up the English language booklet on the way in and read it cover to cover before you go around this garden is our advice - it tells you a lot about what each feature of the garden represents and will increase both your enjoyment and understanding.

The garden was created in 1984 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ohori Park. If you are in the area it is definitely worth the few hundred yen entry fee and the helpful colour pamphlet is an attractive litte souvenier.

Note that the tea house area is not always accessible and that it is best to avoid Sunday's as the graden can becme rather crowded, especially in the early summer azalea season.

The garden is on the south west side of Ohori park, adjacent to the Fukuoka Art Museum. Access is through some small wooden gates. Wander through them and the paybox is on your left.
