Recreation and resort area on the Uminonakamichi peninsula.
A short ferry or train ride out of the city, Uminonakamichi Seaside Park offers miles of beaches, swimming pools, children's play area, a Ferris wheel and other rides, cycling courses and gardens as well as restaurants and shops. The site occupies about 200 hectares and is still only partly developed.

What it feels like
There is something for everyone - as always, avoid the peak season.

The US Army was stationed here until 1972, prior to that was a Japanese military base.

By ferry is best. (In addition to the ferry listed below, you can also take the high speed ferry from Marizon to Uminonakamichi). By train, change at Kashii station. Bus is also possible from Hakata Station.
