Welcome to Lord Muck's Gleaner Online - the internet home of the Gaijin Gleaner. The Gleaner is based in Fukuoka, a city of 1.2 million people on the Japanese Island of Kyushu (the big one at the bottom..). It serves the English speaking expatriates of Kyushu, providing information, news and comment about Japan and the experience of being a foreigner living and working here. We also serve those English speaking Japanese interested in a foreign perspectve on Japanese affairs. The Gleaner is currently black and white, 24 pages, and appears monthly. It started publication in June 1994. All our back issues will be posted online over the coming months. Future issues will be posted online "one month behind", so the only way to stay completely up to date and support the magazine is to subscribe. Subscription, by first class mail, costs 1800yen for twelve issues. To be brutally frank, the more subscriptions we get, the less we have to rely on Japanese advertisers for support and the more hard hitting our articles can be.. The Gleaner is always looking for new contributors and new contributions. Since we are the most widely read English language magazine produced in Kyushu about Kyushu we are also an excellent vehicle for advertising. The Gleaner is a magazine of comment and opinions, dedicated to stating the truth. In a country in which news is always to a greater or lesser extent controlled, and in which what seems to be is rarely what is, the Gleaner is something of an abberation. Our independance is hard fought and hard won. If you have any comments about the mag. or about any aspect of living in Japan, let us know. Unless you mark your e.mail otherwise we will assume it is a available for publication both on line and in print. For a more detailed explanation of the Gleaner's role, see a recent editorial Nikolas May (Editor)
