Spring is a coming!!!!! I hope..

Tired of winter and ready for change and this is the time of year when so many changes occur..students quit..new ones are ready to join..new businesses open and old ones close..weddings.. (speaking of weddings I went to one last week with over 500 guest and SURPRISE I wasn't the only gaijine) parties etc. And one of the big changes in town has been the going of Marco Nijohf the general manager over at the Grand Hyatt and the coming from New Delhi of the new GM David Wilson and his beautiful blond wife Gill (pronounced Jill) and their two lovely daughters..a definite asset to the society scene.. (and what an assette!.. Ed) look for lots of good changes over at that hotel..lots of parties etc..

I had a nice private lunch with Marco and the new GM (British with a nice dry sense of British humour) three day after he got here and before all the parties started.. and the change of guard wouldn't have been complete with out farewell parties and welcome parties etc.

Marco had a private farewell party for all of his friends at Martinis (the upscale bar at the Hyatt) invited guest included Jason and Leslie Hyland from the American Consulate ,Chris and Tracy Rees from the Australian Consulate, the British Consul, Kaz and Charlan Ito of Torakatsu..both of them ex-hotel people ..her being an ex-assistant manager of the Beverly Wiltshire.. Waywen the manager of Singapore Airlines, (sorry girls - the single good-looking boy is leaving soon.. Hope the next one is just as dishy! ) the new boss of Federal Express (sorry, he is gaijine but I lost his card and it was the first time to meet him, in fact he was the only person in the room I didn't know and I still don't know his name) and many others..the drink of the night was *champagne* and it flowed to all hours and afterwards the new GM and his wife Gill and Charlan Ito and I went to the Chinese restaurant in the hotel..believe me it's better when you are with a GM. (Otherwise don't.. Ed)

Two nights later the big corporate party for the changing of the guard..nice speeches, especially the one where Marco called his wife on stage to thank her for her patience when he was busy (ahh - those late night in Nakasu at "Royal Box!") ..not something done in Japan. Lots of big shots there and again all of Marco and Katrina's friends..well they have gone..he to England for two months and then to a big new hotel in Greece, Katrina's home. She is really happy about that.

Other parties.. Harada Sensei the table setting Grand Dame had a farewell party for Marco's wife Katrina..lots of Kat's Japanese friends in attendance..Mr Katayama, Fukuoka's top flower arranger had a big party before leaving for a month traveling around the US..attended by many of Japanese top society..

And last but not least the ASC. of Foreign Wives of Japanese held a very successful three day convention over at the View hotel..over 100 females of all ages and nationality ..good friends from all over Japan and some in from the US and my favorite friend in from Hawaii..(bringing lots of goodies from the Islands)

Had a card from Ruth Williams Yamasaki who left Fukuoka to go back to the US after 12 years here..she is well and sends regards to all friends and will soon be relocating in San Fran.

And that is all the gossip ..(there is lots more but I can't print it so this will have to suffice)
