Information by Staff

Fukuoka Summary Court is the lowest local court and normally handles less serious cases. Summary Courts cannot impose imprisonment except in specific circumstances provided for in law. (And then only up to 3 years with forced labour)

All cases are handled by a single Summary Court judge.

In addition, Summary Courts offer a conciliation service which aims to settle disputes over civil law at a lower cost then would apply through a full blown court hearing.

For more information on the Japanese judicial system, follow the link in the sidebar.

At Akasaka subway station, walk west along Meiji Dori along the castle moat. The Court complex is about 500 metres away, on the left, behind the moat.
